Please send any corrections or additions to [email protected] WOW, that is the most brutal SF BFL course to date!! But what an awesome day to be ride and our final ride for a while since the forst is closing on Monday due to fire danger!
That first 31 miles / 8400 ft climbing up to the towers is brutal!!! On top of that, we went out to Rancho Viejo (furthest out back we can go) and then to top it off we road Discount across (instead of climbing Pacheco Canyon) which we though would be easier, but was actually brutally harder than climbing Pacheco canyon. Luckily the weather was nice to us down low with scattered clouds and breeze to help with the heat. We had 24 people sign-up and 24 show up (new percentage record – 2 out of state no shows and to late sign-in’s) ! 16 started the “A” course (70 miles, 14k) and only 6 finished. 6 started the “B” course (60 miles / 11K) and 4 finishedand finally 2 started the “C” course (52 miles/ 9K) and 1 finished. Great SS representation this year with 5 starting the “A” course (2 finished) and 1 started the “B” (none finished). Congrats to Dylan Harp for top bragging rights and course record for the new course and Morgan Murri for top Single Speed bragging rights and course record for the new course!! Special thanks to:
A special welcome back to NMES to everyone’s favorite Cow, Chris Hereford. MOooooo! That first 30 miles / 8500 ft climbing up to the towers is brutal!!! On top of that, it had to be the hottest day on record for an NMES ride. Luckily we where high up in the Santa Fe mountains for most of the ride with some cloud cover. Except… for that section from En Medio on the black top and half way up Pacheco Canyon. It was blazing hot and had to be in the mid 90’s!!
We had 36 people sign-up and 23 show up! 17 started the BFL (72 miles) and only 6 finished. 6 started the MFL (56 miles) and 4 finished. Congrats to Cameron Brenneman for top bragging rights and new course record for the new course and Lenny Goodell for top Single Speed bragging rights and new course record for the new course!! Come on SSers where where ya?? We only had 2 SSers show up!! Special thanks to:

Can’t ask for anything better, ok maybe some more spare tubes… :-)
We had 40 people sign-up and 33 show up. Congrats to Jens Nielsen for top Bragging Rights for the full BFL . Congrats to Lyra Parker for being the first female to attempt and complete the full SF BFL on a Single Speed and she did it faster than a couple years back when she did the SF BFL on gears!! Nice Job! Special thanks to Brent Bonwell for doing the SAG drops (and assume cleaned up Big-T) and Chris and Lenny for cleaning up at Aspen Ranch. Please post your ride reports as comments at the bottom of this page and send me any pictures you would like to post. The weather was amazing, especially considering all the rain we have been getting and no rain for our event!!
We had 53 people sign-up and 40 people showed up… 17 finished the full route with only one SSer finshing this year. 2 others completed the sorter Medium Friggin loop. Nice job everyone!! Special thanks to Amy Crotty, Brent Bonwell, Scott Lucido and Jeff Humberson for drop bag support. You all Rock!!! Congrats to Brad Hunt for a blazing 1st place time, Jonhny Fox for being the only SS finisher and to Leia Barnett for sticking it out and being the only women to finish!! Way to go!! Please post your ride reports as comments at the bottom of this page. Click comments link below to view and enter comments What a great day to be on the bike!!! We had 38 people sign-up and 28 showed up… 3 finished the full route plus the Rancho Viejo option and 9 others finished the full route, 4 of which were single speeders. Nice job everyone!! There were a couple needless DNFs… :-(
Remember for next year if you make it to the top of Pacheco Canyon, you have done all the hard work, only a few short climbs after descending Winsor…. If you make it to the intersection of Chamisa & Sidewinder, you have a short climb broken up into rollers and then a great decent down to Little Tesuque Trail, for a total of only 3.3 miles to Hyde road… I (Lenny) DNF’ed last year at Pacheco Canyon and was suprised this year how un-hard (don’t want to say easy.. ) it was after 9 hours… My polar computer shows the Pacheco Canyon climb to be 7.2 miles and 2000 feet of climbing. So if this was your bail out point this year, remember that Pacheco Canyon is not as nasty as it looks and go for it next year!!! Please post your short ride reports as comments to this page.
